Nope, you are suffering from amnesia. My SIMS server sits on my work DSL line which has static IPs. I used to also have static IPs on my home DSL line which is why this was never an issue. But I moved recently, and could now get cheaper Verizon DSL at the cost of loosing the static IP. What you might be remembering is, I used to run a backup mail server from my home DSL line. But I got rid of that when I moved and changed to my new DSL service. It really wasn't doing anything except collecting spam, so I figured it wasn't worth the effort of putting it back online after the move. (If I still had it, then I could just use it for outbound mail from my house, I could of course put it back online, but then I have to worry about what RBLs my new dynamic IP bank is listed in) >www.dyndns.org - have been using them for various reasons and from >different parts of the world for almost a decade, with no problems I >might add. Of course, the real question is: which dynamic dns provider >has the clients that you need (or, for which you could write your own). I looked at them, and since they are free for the level of use I need, I'm probably going to try them out. They list various clients that work with their setup, a number of which are Linux. Since Linux is on my firewall now at home, I should be good to go. (And worst case, if I change back to my older Mac based NAT router, they also have a few clients that work on the mac, so either way I can keep the DynDNS client on the gateway machine and keep it off my workstations.) -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> ############################################################# This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
