Of course I got that. It was the "infinitely self-sufficient

I think that Nathan is saying that we can learn how to better
manipulate ourselves and others through the application of cognitive
psychology, rather than just passively observing human nature, which
is the other side of the coin.
So when Matt Mahoney says "I thought the goal of cognitive psychology
was to understand behavior", you say, "yes, Matt, but you can also use
it pro-actively to reenginer your own behavior and those of others".
I.e., marketers taking advantage of social psychology.
