Folks,

the SIP bake-offs are meant as technical events, not marketing ones. In
particular, any classification of implementations (basic, intermediate,
advanced, etc.) is purely for the benefit of matching up
implementations. It is not meant for publically "ranking"
implementations. Among other things, we want to encourage all
implementors to come, not just those with more mature code. Thus, to
avoid any confusion: Please inform your PR people that this
classification is not to be used in any press releases or other similar
externally visible descriptions (product literature, etc.)

The bake-off has tried to avoid setting down rules and regulations in
writing. This can only work if we avoid turning it into a marketing
event and if people observe utmost discretion in their public
statements.

Companies are encouraged to indicate their participation in the bake-off
and make general comments (its usefulness, number of companies involved,
state of the SIP "industry", products you tested, etc.), but avoid
creating any impression of a competition or that the bake-off certifies
interoperability.

I'd be glad to talk to PR folks in your companies if they would like to
discuss this issue in more detail.

Thanks.

Henning
