Hi. I had some questions re what is the generally accepted rule or practice, if any, re registration if a client on a host is engaging in an active SIP call and the underlying IP address changes due to a reset PPP connection.
- Should the client attempt to re-register with its server/softswitch?

If the old address is now invalid, its registration should be removed. Then you probably do want to register the new address.

- Should the server/softswitch "kill" the current call if it detects a different IP address via a new registration?

The contact address in a call isn't necessarily related to the registered contact. You aren't required to have a registration to initiate (or receive) a call. So NO, the call shouldn't be torn down.

But if the old address is about to become invalid, the device should send a reinvite with the new contact address.
