Hello,
Fax pass-through most probably goes through perceptual codecs which
are optimized for dealing with speech (Important speech frequency
components).
In that case, fax is heavily distorted. T.38 support resolves this, but fax
pass-thorough
is still needed anyway, for enabling fax transmission, although distorted,
at least.
Just one of many advantages of course.
hope this helps,

Masood Khosroshahy

Subject: [Sip-implementors] Fax passthru vs Fax relay over packet network

Hi, all:

In addition to the error recovery function, does anyone know any
advantage of using Fax Relay (T.38) over Fax Passthru?

    Thanks.

         Todd
