Subject: [Sip-implementors] Rounting calls between SIP Server and MGC

Hi!

Please, I have a question!

Can anyone tell me if exist any recommendation, RFC or best practices to
routing calls between MGC (or softswitch) and SIP Server (Call Statefull)?

In this architecture the MGC is a class IV element that controlling the MG's
(Media Gateway) using H.248, so routing E1's between different geographic areas
(Long Distance Calls). The SIP Server is a class V that controlling a SIP
devices (Softphone, IAD and IP Phone).

In this scenario when a PSTN client calls a SIP client, the signaling pass to
MGC (H.248) using a MG connect with Local Switch, and MGC send a invite to SIP
Server, because the number called isn't in a domain PSTN, after this the SIP
Server continuing the signaling normally.

Vivek: U did not tell about the communication medium between local switch and
MGC.
If local switch is pure TDM then u need a SG between switch and MGC and SIGTRAN
(IUA or M3UA or M2UA) will be used for communication between SG and MGC. SIP is
used directly between MGC and Sip server. Here message structure will be
universal as described in rfc3261.

IF the local switch is hybrid switch then signaling between local switch and
MGC can be over SIP-T. MGC can send same SIP-T message to SIP server but
encapsulated ss7 part will be ignored by SIP server. Difference in ISUP
structure based on geographical area should not cause any problem here.
But, the question is linked with forwarding calls between MGC and SIP Server,
what is the message structure, mainly about two different geographic areas?

Regards,

Paul
