Thanks for the reply. The 18.2.2 of rfc 3261 clearly
indicates that if port is absent in send-by then use
5060 (default port). If port is given/known then DNS-A
query should be made. I have seen Jonathan's comment
on that earlier. His comment is confirming that.

The RFC3263 indicates DNS query for Via header only
for "Failure" cases. The maddr of Via is not used for
"Failure" cases.

The DNS-A query is made if maddr of Via header is in
hostname format and send-by does not have port.

Therefore, I disagree with you on the fact DNS SRV
query is made for maddr ='hostname' pattern in via
header. However for other headers (e.g., Request URI,
Route, Record Route, Contact), the DNS-SRV query shall
be made if maddr='hostname' and port is not present in
URI.

I am sending this email to Paul and Brett to confirm
