Any re-INVITE or UPDATE (provided it contains the correct Session Timer
headers) will refresh the session.

offer-answer exchange is not relevant with respect to refreshing
the session. In other words, SDP content has no effect on the session
refresh timers.

Attila

Subject: [Sip-implementors] Query related to Session timer

Hi,

If normal Re-invite or UPDATE are processed after session timer is
negotiated in call, will it extend the session interval for refresh.

For example, A and B negotiates 3600 seconds for session refresh and A is
the refresher.
Suppose A holds after 500 seconds,i.e A send Re-invite to B, will that
reinvite refresh the session interval on both A and B.

>From my understanding, session interval will not be refreshed if Re-invite
or UPDATE do not contain Session-Expires header.
Also, I have seen many UAs not implementing origin field of SDP to
indicate the session refresh Re-INVITE as only session refresh and not
offer-answer exchange. Does it mean then both session timer fnctionality
and offer-answer exchange has to be done for the session-refresh REINVITEs

Please let me know if my understanding is correct.

Thanks,
Udit
