Subject: [Sip-implementors] 408 Request timed out

Hi,
I am slightly confused about 408 request timeout
response.
When a UAC send an Invite and it doesn't get back any
response, the UAC transaction generates a 408
response.

>>Correct. Internally it treats/processes the call as though a 408
response has been received.

The 408 response never comes from the UAS.

>>It may for B2BUA implementation the UAC side of B2BUA would pass the
408 response ( after it's INVITE Timesout ) towards the server side of
B2BUA to pass it to the originating UAC. So in this case the originating
UAC will recived a final response 408.

Am i right?Do you send an ACK for this to UAS.

>>In the case where you received a final response from the network for
INVITE Txn you have to send an ACK.
>>In case your internal timeout results in UAC treating the call as
though 408 response came in, then you should not send ACK to the
network.

Also, in caseof call forward no answer, do you get a
408 timeout response to initial invite and then you
initiate a new invite to the forwarded number.

>>Depends upon CFDA running on B2BUA or actual phone terminating UAS. In
B2BUA case there is internal CFDA timers which will timeout and forward
the call to the forwarding destination as provisioned on B2BUA
subscriber. On the phone if CFDA is activated I think they make use of
301/302 mechanism to forward the call.

Thanks

Hope this helps and makes up for the confusion regarding the forking on
proxy and B2BUA :)
