Hi, One of the "advantages" in the early days was that SIP runs on both UDP and TCP. Nowadays I don't think everyone sees that as an advantage anymore...
Another of the "advantages" in the early days was that SIP "is about the user, not the device". Nowadays we seem to use GRUUs, instance-ids, or whatever other device id, for more and more things, so... Another of the "advantages" in the early days was that the process to define SIP extensions is much faster. Everyone can judge for themselves... I think it's very difficult to give one generic (and objective) list of advantages. It's all about what your requirements are.
