Excellent!

One beef though... If you omit the domain from the "Account" value,
then the import fails with an invalid credentials message.

Could we instead assume "@gmail.com" if the a domain is not specified?

Hi Paul Al just set me up with an account on a Domain that is
serviced by Google Apps and used the Gmail import button from the user
portal on your development machine and it worked.

        Hi all,

sipXecs can import contacts from an @gmail.com account. But,
can it also import contacts from an account in any domain serviced by
Google Apps?

(If not, then you should not be required to suffix "@gmail.com"
to the Account value when performing an import.)
