Is someone preparing documentation on the functionality that will be
supported with the new XMPP support being implemented in sipXecs 4.2 via
Openfire? I have looked at all of the issues in the JIRA and what is
available on the Wiki, but I have not been able to determine what exactly
will be supported. The specific questions I have are:

1. Will this function be tied into the status server and propagate the XMPP
status via the Resource List?
2. Is the instant messaging function on the Polycom phone XMPP based and
will it work with the XMPP server being implemented on the SCS?
3. Is the Presence/Status on the Polycom phone XMPP based and therefore can
it be used to set the status of the user?
4. How will the XMPP status be shown on the soft client (i.e. Attendant
station)?

The source for the questions come from a customer who has been using the
Polycom Buddy Watch function on the Attendant Console. A Polycom 650 with
three expansion modules has been configured to monitor the status of the
employees using Buddy Watch. The company employees, all of whom use Polycom
phones, have been instructed to set their status on the phone to "Away" when
they leave for lunch or are in a meeting. This changes the icon on the
Attendant Console and is used by the Attendant to decide call handling -
transfer the call to the user, send the call directly to the user's
voicemail, or route to another employee. Polycom's support of the BLF
function in sipXecs is not integrated with the presence status on the phone
so changing status has no affect on their icon on the Attendant Console.

It appears that with JIRA XX-5994 that user Call Forwarding rules are being
integrated with the function to allow users to make decisions on call
routing, but it also would make sense to provide visibility to the
Attendant. If the Polycom phones were integrated with the new XMPP function
and there is a soft client like the Advatel Phone Easy IP Console or an
enhanced Nortel (CounterPath) soft phone that provides status of users, then
this function appears to meet the requirements of the customer.

Sincerely,
