True, Avaya has no pure "softswitch" product. So it would fill a hole for them.
My concern is just that opensource and avaya are not the best of friends. And with SipX being license LGPL they could start pulling all new features in as non-opensource components. Leaving the opensource version to stagnate. But I'm holding out hope yet! -M >>> "Picher, Michael" <mpic...@cmctechgroup.com> 09/15/09 3:10 AM >>> That being said, they really don't have anything positioned like sipXecs. Their solutions in the SMB space are all hardware based solutions. With competitors like Mitel (their 3300 call control is now available on VMWare) and Shoretel (Shoreware Director runs in Windows) in the SME space delivering largely software based solutions that scale much better than hardware solutions, they have to be feeling the heat. So my opinion is that Avaya is looking for infrastructure products (Ethernet switches first of all). And I think that it's likely that Avaya will throw away the sipX. I hope that this will not happen, but... From the other hand, it depends upon who will pick it up... Let's see what will happen (as Scott says).
