While this is possible, there is also a chance that the user will screw it up or close it accidentally. Also, it does not address departments where the last person to leave "turns out the lights". A button on the phone would be ideal for this situation, that way they just touch it and go.
Also, users setting forwarding rules in the portal would work, but expecting the users to remember all the steps necessary to enable this vs. just pressing a button on their phone seems like a no brainer. I have a hard enough time teaching users how to use their voicemail much less logging in to enable a call forwarding rule. Setting the forwarding rule also doesn't give a visual indication whether or not the day/night mode is active (such as a BLF button showing busy), which in my opinion is just as important as the ability to set it from the phone. Another example of where a simple button on the phone would be a better choice is when an attendant needs to go to the bathroom, instead of hurrying to change the forwarding settings all the while crossing their legs in hopes they will make it to the bathroom on time, they just press a button and the day/night setting is active, allowing them to rush to the bathroom (sorry for the somewhat "graphic" example, but such is life) Todd Hodgen wrote: > There is a simple workaround for this. > > Forward your incoming calls to a Counterpath soft phone, set up the > Counterpath to forward to your receptionist or auto attendant. > Setup a forward rule for the Counterpath extension for when it doesn't > answer. > > When you have the client open, it follows the forward rule of the > Counterpath, when you close the software, it follows the forwarding rules in > sipXecs for that extension.
