I am not happy with the 1535's I have (three of them) running on 4.2 (or any other release for that matter). I have found they will freeze in the middle of a call (if using handsfree) requiring a reboot of the phone, also for some reason when they register the expiration timer seems to always be 240 seconds, and I am not sure why.
I have also never thought of the 1535's as a "low cost phone", did you find a deal somewhere?
