We are engaged with a large mobile operator and are using there own SIP trunk infrastructure, a CS2K (with ISUP interface to the PSTN) and ACME packet. The problem is that their SIP trunk is configured to give 183 with SDP immediately upon receiving the outgoing INVITE. After that it is opened for early media, but we never get 180 Ringing, only 200 OK when destination answers. Somewhere between 183 and 200 media changes from silence to ring tone (or announcement). We are dependant on receiving correct alerting notification when destination is ringing. So the question is, can we in sipX some how detect when the media stream starts (assuming there is silence suppression)? ________________________________________ Within the sipXecs architecture, the UAs are expected to handle the media processing; the sipXecs processes handle signaling but not media. Within the SIP standards, their behavior is correct -- the far-end is not required to provide a 180 response before proving early media or before the 200 response. Indeed, the far-end need not provide *any* response before providing early media. (Ugh.) So your UA will have to detect when the media stream starts.
