Could you try manually telnet'ing to Exchange on port 143 and tryng to login.
If sipX couldn't connect to Exchange due to an authentication error it should have sent you an Email about chanig your email password. It won't try to establish a connection again until the password Has been updated on sipX. Had to enable IMAP etc on our server since it was disabled, but worked without issue after that... You could try installing Wireshark on the exchange server and see if the requests are answered/getting there. Or you can do a packet capture on the SipX box to view in Wireshark as well. Might let you know what is going on... We will be upgrading to 2010 shortly so I'm hoping this does work correctly with it as well.
