OK... I should read all the mails before starting to reply... :-) anyway
if I remember well there was a bug in the --append option with
si_mkautoinstallcd, the fix was introduced in 3.7.3 (so the bug is
surely resolved in 3.7.5). Maybe this is the reason because you need to
type the ramdisk_size parameter at the boot prompt.

Regarding the floppy, why don't you define all the local.cfg options in
the kernel boot parameters with the --append option? (obviously only if
you're using a release >= 3.7.3).
