But I've installed the file texshop here:

Is this location the reason for the failure?

Probably. If you don't put it in one of /bin, /usr/bin, /usr/local/bin (I
think), then you need to put the whole path in Skim's prefs. You may replace
the path to your home directory with $HOME (tilde doesn't work because the
path gets quoted).
