When I split the PDF (e.g. to see some figures at the end of the paper while reading their description in the body) I have trouble with the zoom in the second panel. Specifically, after adjusting it once it is hard to adjust it again (either you can't or only very sporadically does it respond). That is, hitting CMD+ or CMD - adjusts the top panel, no matter whether the bottom one is selected and moved around. Similarly with the trackpad gestures zoom pinching.
Only way is to "right click" the bottom panel and choose the drop down menu zoom option, which is slow and irritating. I don't have the same problem with scrolling.
