Bruce, a couple of people have stated I need to delete the desk top icon.
why would the icon make a difference?

If you start Skype and then close it, Skype sits in your system tray. If you
have hot keys enabled, you can assign a hot key (I use
control+windows+a) to answer your calls from wherever you happen to be;
you can define another hot key (I use Windows+control+h) to hang up your
call from wherever you happen to be. And you can define another key (I use
control+Windows+s) to open Skype from wherever you happen to be. You can
additionally define keys to ignore calls, mute/unmute the microphone, and
more.
