Hi, I have been told that making calls with pidgin is possible,but you have to turn of the auto regulation of sound devices in skype. Under Linux, you have to use sighted assistance for that, because skype for Linux doesn't work with screenreaders at all. I haven't tried it myself, so I cannot guarantee that it works.
