Sorry jack almost every program in use to day needs extra documentation for the
blind user. For example lets take gold wave for example. While I have tried
to make the scripts for that program as easy to use as I can there are extra
hot keys that you as a blind person need to know about. How do you find out
about them. well you read the help text and you learn what they are.
In internet explorer the virtual cursor is used. Once again to work with and
use the verchual cursor you have to understand how it works. Once again to do
this you have to read the documentation. Skype is no different in this regard.
The scripts have added functionality that make using skype 4.1 easy yes I wil
say it even easyer then 3.8. the only way you can take advantage of this
though is to read the documentation. So every program I know of that uses
scripts has documentation that you really should read and if your mind set is
to not have to ever read documentation to use a program simple or other wise I
guess you had better start uninstalling stuff lots of stuff. Fact is
documentation is a part of a computer users life all the more so if you are a
blind computer user. If you don't like that I am sorry but it is true. Oh buy
the way the skype upgrade was maid so it would be easyer for the main streem
user. That is people like my dad who never read documentation they just point
and click. We the blind users are not in that main streem probably never will
be so we had better get used to having to do that little extra work. yep part
of that work is understanding some documentation that pertains to the program.
Part of that work is having a deeper understanding then the average person of
windows and windows concepts. Or as I tell my clients windows is monkey see
and monkey do but we have to understand a little bit more then the average
monkey.

Jim,

Not everyone is as interested as you might be in learning about every
nuance of the inner workings of a program. Most people have a plug and
play mentality when it comes to computers. When I have to sit down and
read pages of documentation to use something like Skype, that's the day
that I uninstall it from my computer. People want simplicity. They
don't want to read a manual to use something as simple as Skype. When
the upgrades require me to read documentation to use a program that
shouldn't require any thought, then the program has become too
complicated for the average user and they've defeated the purpose of the
upgrade. Improvements are supposed to make a program more user
friendly, not complicate matters so you need to read documentation on
how to use it. You have the mindset to want to learn these things, and
that's great. Most people don't. When you make a program that is no
longer user friendly for the average user, then who are you making it
for?
Jack

In other words you could not be bothered to learn. I mean come on you
spend ten minits with a program and decide it is crap? Did you read the
documentation on dougs script page for skype. Did you have the scripts
installed come on man give something a chance use it for a few days read
the docs and then after that if you don't like it tell us what your
issues are. Ten minits sheesh.

Hi clair.

To clarify my words, I did not literally mean the people who designed
the
new interface for skype 4.1 should be shot, lol it was my way of saying
it
is a terrible design, and I can't believe that they adopted it as a new
interface.

I actually did revert back to skype 3.8 it looks far to different for my
liking, I spent ten minutes playing with it and couldn't even figure out
a
nice easy way of accessing the history for an individual conversation.

Plus I don't feel like remembering a massive load of keystrokes just to
get
things done with really simple areas of skype like conversations. I just
find 3.8 a lot more navigable, especially as in a lot of areas 4.1 just
seems to make things that were very simple in 3.8 stupidly complex.

I will put a suggestion in to skype regarding some kind of option for a
3.8
classic interface button.

I am sure skype 4.1 does offer more accessibility features and better
call
quality but I don't feel like getting to grips with a hole new interface
just for a few new features.

I am probably a dinosaur, as I am going nowhere near windows vista or
windows 7 either for a long time to come. I will only upgrade when I am
forced to by the fact that developers stop making apps for xp.

I spent ten minutes playing with skype 4.1 just looking at the interface
and
couldn't feel comfortable with it at all. Having said that Its a shame
3.8
doesn't have that conversation list feature that 4.1 does.
