Hi sakina,
As i mentioned before in this regard. First thing she must do is to
check the 4 boxes that are related to updates Under
tools>options>advanced settings and then save the changes.
However, that's not enough, she had to be very careful whenever she
launches skype or starts her computer if skype is set to run
automatically with windows. I mean by being careful that she has to
start pressing alt + f4 and wait for some very few seconds and again
alt + f4 and repeat it while of course on the skype window until she
hears a message prompting her whether she really wants to exit the
update's installer, and then tab to ok button and presses enter.
Skype tries to force the update on you whenever you sign in to skype or
you start your machine, that happens very quickly, so she has to be very
quick to quit the update before it takes over and installs the new
version. Once she does this, she'll be safe until she signs again to
skype or restarts her computer

Thanks for the great response to my question, after trying the
possible solutions suggested my friend is still having the problem
though not as often.
In response to the idea that we should update to give others less
problems to both their audio quality or band width is not without its
merits but personally I will point out that though keeping up with
today's technology there is still one main reason that we both wish
to stay with skype 3.8. The interface is easy to navigate and Jaws
friendly. But I am willing to take a look at skype 4.2 with a view
to finding how accessable it can be using my backup laptop, here's
hoping.

SO THE QUESTION IS, IS THERE A WAY OF STOPPING THIS UPDATE AS BOTH
OF US HAVE TRIED TO FIND A WAY BUT WITHOUT SUCCESS.
