Hey,
if you have a microphone which has an on/off button, you can try using that
solution, I use it myself and it's quite good. Otherwise, I think the
easiest way is to set an hotkey in the hotkeys section of Skypes options,
where there's also the "Mute microphone" choice. Simply choose change Hotkey
button, check the chekboxes that you want (ctrl, shift and/or alt), type the
other key, press Ok and save all.
Warning: it is not recommended to set ctrl+shift+m for that, because it's
associated to the scripts command which hallows you to choose an emoticon.
