I'll save that URL but can't do a lot with it for the moment as I'm at a contract site working on another project. I would want the source to the installer though, or a description of what it does. I probably should not try to run it on this system during the project I'm working on, and I don't have another system or VM handy to use for this.
It might actually be enough if you sent me your default.jss as it now stands. On Thu, May 23, 2013 at 10:55:37AM -0500, Luis Eduardo Pe?a wrote: Thanks doug for such a detailed explanation. Subject: Re: [Skypeenglish] unable to install Skype scripts jfw-skr60a I attempted to work with Brian on the JTools installer a while back but did not get consensus with him on how to handle the situation. At this time, not having JTools myself, I don't know how his installer works. I set up mine to allow any number of conforming installers to share a single set of scripts (default.jss in this case), and I actively encourage others to use the same strategy so this issue need not arise. The strategy I use works very similarly to device driver chaining, and for the same reasons. I may have misunderstood Brian's description of his installer back then, but my understanding at the time was that he wanted a custom default.jss in place that contained actual code, as opposed to just loading other script files containing actual code. The problem with this is that only one script set can safely do that, and generally the last one to be installed. This restriction is not present in the approach I have been using for several years. If I misunderstood Brian here, I apologize and welcome dialog. Brian's podcast recommends that users remove third-party scripts, such as the Skype scripts, then install the JTools scripts, and finally reinstall third-party scripts. I'm not sure if he subsequently updated his installer to permit this approach to coexist with mine, and the "out of memory" message you got when running my installer does not tell me the answer to this yet. Due to the increasing number of people writing scripts that modify default.jss and share other script files, another example being Internet Explorer scripts for specific web sites, I am now publicly adopting the policy of insisting that people who wish to share the interception of a set of scripts do so in a way that allows others to do the same, without one script set having to know how another one works. My Skype and BX scripts are prime examples of a way to do this, and the BX installer actually makes visible the VBScript code I use to do much of the grunt work for this approach. (That code even supports prioritization of script sets, but so far I have never seen the need to use that feature.) My recommendation, then, would be a discussion with Brian on how we can make the JTools installer coexist happily in an environment where other script sets that do not know about JTools also intercept default.jss. As an aside, Brian's podcast also asserts that he is using a method supported by Freedom Scientific tech support. I don't doubt this, but as I told him in email back when we discussed this, we are both doing things beyond that expected or even officially supported by FS tech support personnel. The approval stamp of FS tech support is, in my mind at least, therefore not equivalent to a statement of best practice. :-) On Thu, May 23, 2013 at 09:53:37AM -0500, Luis Eduardo Pe?a wrote: Hi Doug, Although I was able to install the skype scripts, skype watch is disabled. I think as somebody else pointed out in this tread, j-tools disables this feature of your scripts. Can you do something about it? As you may know j-tools is a set of scripts developed by Brian Hargen wich enhances the useability of Jaws. Here is the link to download j-tools in case you want to do some testing: http://www.astec-at.co.uk/j-tools/6.0/J-Tools.EXE I should point out that I installed j-tools on my home computer and I didn?t have this problem. Both computers are running Windows 8 and the latest bill of Jaws 14, the bill that was released last week. The computer where I am experiencing this problem has 12 GB of memory, so I don?t understand why the error log reports lack of memory. Your suggestions to resolve this problem will be greatly appreciated.
