Subject line, Soft's original message dealt with 64bits *Linux* systems,
not with Windows...

As I originally stated, it is not comparable!  The low percentage, stated earlier and which shows your last comment is already obvious, only adds to the reason why adoption rate of such 64 bit Linux systems stays low. The question, however, was about the gains.

It is obvious there is much to gain with 64 bit systems. If you really in this mood to find me off topic or wrong, then put up a version of the viewer that takes full advantage of all 64 bit features. I've already did my research to show earlier on this thread how the normal viewer compares on a quad core 64 bit system:

Now lets add to that and think outside the box a little about this.

On my 32-bit system, I used to only be able to run the viewer and maybe two other main applications at the same time and I might have a responsive system enough for productivity. Only my newer 64 bit system, I have e-mail, a few IDEs left open, several sessions of iceweasel, music player,  compiz, about 15 shells sessions, 8 virtual desktops, and quite often compiling the viewer over and over... and I still remain productive. Yes, there are some freakin' obvious gains with the amount of productivity that can be achieved with 64 bit systems.

Again, for a program that is geared for 32 bit systems, its incomparable.
