Although there are other reasons why you might want to write to a 
notecard with a script, the main reason would be so you store data 
inside an object.  Data like... config settings.

It might be more sensible to find a better way to store config data and 
the like inside a scripted object: the notecard-reading thing is a 
kludge.  We could probably allow custom properties on an object, for 
example.
