It probably has more to do with the amount of text in the chat window than the amount of time you were logged on.
You could set up an object to spam you with chat (llOwnerSay) to see how the rendering responds to a lot of text. The maximum buffer size for the chat history is 2 GB (defined in floater_chat_history.xml).
