edgyfest 3.

it rawked.

it was awesome.

the end.

i guess i can't leave it at that, right mr. covey?? ;)

i reached the molson ampitheatre with my cousin cathy at about 9 am and met
up with lisa. already waiting in line were the haligonians and d'arcy, so we
joined them. it was raining hard. i had a poncho on and i was still wet.
we saw the thrush hermit tour bus enter the grounds, and i saw charles of
super friendz driving a van. over at the ampitheatre, there were people
hanging around on an balcony, and katrina recognized ian mcgettigan so we all
started chanting "ian!", and he took off his shirt and went inside. did we
scare him??? anyways, at around 9:45 tara dc and jason joined us, as well as
dave. at about 10, warren (who said that he'd be in line at 8 am) shows up.
so we had a little netter convention going on. the rain did stop for a bit,
but it started up again :( and bees were really attracted to jason's hair (
poor kid :( ). finally at 10:45, they decided to let us in (doors were
supposed to open at 10). we all grabbed our murder single (7" -- it's even
catalogued as "mur019") and fled for cover.

although they let us in late, the show started on time (at 11) with dave
bookman (of cfny) introducing adam west, who gave an electric rendition of
our national anthem.

here are the acts i caught (and i'll comment on several):
- adam west
- made
- the super friendz: chris and matt come out on stage with afro wigs on.
fashion statement? they were allowed to play 5 songs. they were great, no
trouble with instruments, but it was a much too short set!!!
- subtractor [side stage]
- plumtree [side stage]: they played a short set as well. interestingly
enough, they didn't play a single song from their _flutterboard_ ep, but
played the banana song 'cause girls were screaming for it. at this time,
members from east coast bands started to join the crowd at the side stage
- the local rabbits [side stage]: they were awesome, rawkin', bluesy, and
plain crazy!! those boys are quite a sight to see. i really enjoyed their
set. it was great!!! :)
- change of heart: before they played their last song, the drummer sang the
opening to "underwhelmed" :)
- the hardship post: a lot more mellower than expected. kinda depressing,
actually... i don't have the new album, but i did recognize "my sunshine" but
it wasn't the way i know it.. they did play "coax me", which i didn't
recognize at first because it was downplayed; i was wondering what song it
was because i knew all the lyrics, and then realized that it's a sloan song.
i really want hp to become a 3-piece again and perform some upbeat tunes.
- rusty
- jale : they were rawkin'! i believe most of the material was from their
_closed_ ep (which i don't have). they did play "promise", though :), except
the bass was suddenly turned up towards the end.
- ma
- sugar ray
- thrush hermit : they didn't play any thrush hermit songs that i like!! :(
...actually, they didn't play a single th song until the end, where they
ended off with some "great pacific ocean" -- thrush hermit played an entire
set of covers!!! it was awesome :) although, joel started stripping on
stage.... um, anyways their set was a lot of fun! it was like they were
performing on the side stage since they seemed so relaxed. their last song
[note: if anyone know any of the titles of the songs they played, please
tell me!!] was the best, because many joined them on stage -- i.e. the local
rabbits, chris, matt murphy, and amanda (from plumtree). check 'em dancing!
:) as the thrush hermit boys went into "the great pacific ocean (reprise)",
local rabbits began singing collective souls' "december"! somebody give me
some of the stuff that lr's are on!!
- killjoys : did a cover of a song from _grease_: "the one that i want".
- treble charger : came out dressed in wigs, sunglasses and moustaches (yup,
the whole schtick!)
- 13 engines
and...
- sloan

who i will review in part II, since this is getting lengthy.

                                ...sizzle teen
