the 'little bit' is subjective and conditional, depending
on the hw, but overall you dont want *too many* slon daemons
on the master. considering things like context switching, etc etc.

but with 1024 slaves, i would probably create 1,2,3,n tiers
which will include the really vital/need to be up-to-date nodes and
obviously as much as you can maintain, and then let the others use shipping
for the updates.

but for 1024 nodes in general, you need a different solution IMO.
