I'll give a +1 on using daemontools to run the slons. It's far cleaner and easier than anything else I've tried. I've also put some more work into polishing the slon-mkservice.sh script, which I would be happy to contribute back if there's any interest. Speaking of the port, will it be updated to 1.2.7 soon?
