I think the term 'No Servers' is really a generic thing. What they
will probably look at is the traffic coming <b>from</b> your site and
deem it a server if you go over a threshold.
By saying 'No Server' Optus have an out. For probably the first few
months they won't care - just get everyone signed up on contracts, and
then start enforcing <b>their</b> law.
Imaging if you proxy from your connection, is it classified 'as a
server' ?
This is all just marketing hype, same as that car commercial 1 million
kilometre warranty.
Thats what they did with OptusVision, their mobiles and other
services, So whats the difference ?
Having dealt with Optus over the last few months at a corporate level,
I can truely say that their service is rooted. They seem to have a
major mail problem (mostly to do with a buy-in ISP - Microplex). Mail
is taking sometimes upto 48 hours to transgress one of their servers.
I'm not surprised about their data base being stuffed. They seem to be
hitting the streets way to early, They didn't even know my company was
a customer and we haven't been invoiced for over 8 months ($16k).
They are probably getting in before some other larger US/European
providers get here in the New Year offering Satelite access at much
better rates.
Sorry for the damning report on Optus, but I think they are just a
bunch of Morons who won't be able to deliver the goods that the
promise for a while.
All I'm trying to say is 'let the buyer beware'
