   The CAP Program is a long-term collaborative research program between
   the ANU and Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd, Japan, now entering its 11th
   year. Its main focus is on the analysis and evaluation of the memory
   behaviour of current and future shared memory multiprocessors, and in
   the optimization of the operating system for these machines.
   
   The ANU offers an excellent research environment for researchers
   interested in High Performance Computing and in the development of
   modern operating systems such as Linux. In particular, the Department
   of Computer Science and the Computer Science Laboratory are are about
   to acquire a large cluster computer (Beowulf), building on ten years'
   experience in parallel computing. Appointees will have the opportunity
   to participate in operating systems development and other research on
   this machine.
   
   The ANU also has strong links with APAC, the national initiative for
   advanced computing, and CSIRO Mathematics and Information Sciences,
   both located in the same building as the Department of Computer
   Science.
   
   Applicants should have demonstrated high-level skills and experience
   in software development, documentation and maintenance using the C
   programming language, as well as a thorough familiarity with Unix or
   Linux systems. Experience in one or more of the following areas would
   be a definite advantage
     * operating systems design and implementation, preferably in Linux
       or Solaris.
     * modification / extension of the Linux kernel.
     * performance-intensive commercial applications.
     * benchmarking and architectural simulation.
     * contemporary SMP computer architecture.
