According to ComputerWorld (Nov 26th issue) Telstra is currently
trialing ADSL in about 100 homes and businesses in the Major Metro
areas. Telstra has delayed the rollout for an upgrade to their network.
A final trial is to be completed in June 2000 and the service should be
available by August. Pricing is expected to be similar to their crappy
cable service.
It should be noted that we are some ways behind the rest of the world in
this area, which is strange considering how readily Australians usually
take to new technology.
I have heard however that some ISP's have already begun services in
Sydney and Melbourne CBD's but don't quote me on that one (something to
do with getting access to the local loops and installing their own
equipment) :)
Regards
Brett
