Yuck! That's _ugly_.
You could use Netware NFS, export the volumes to the Unix box, then just
back them up using tar, or cpio or similar.

Not easily, and it really requires some expensive software {I.E. ArcServe
or BackupExec} to get reliable backups of the NDS. DSREpair will export
the DS to a text file, from memory, but it's ugly trying to put it back.
