LCP echo requests? I don't know if tcpdump would display LCP echo requests,
they're not the same as ICMP echo requests. In any case, 1.1 is
sending 2 udp packets, that are 2 bytes big to two different ports,
and 1.56 is saying there is nothing listening on those ports.

Those lines have nothing to do with the pppd protocol, they aren't the
ICP echo request you may have set up in the ppp config file, hence
they won't cause pppd to drop out.

I don't know why it would hang, is 1.1 linux or windows?
If its windows, I would put it in the same basket as
crashes and gpf, etc, its just something you have to live
with if you use windows.
