Okay, directing this back to where I'm coming from, I'm going to throw
up the scenario that I am considering and ask for comments from anyone
who has DONE it, or something similar.
Essentially I am looking at increasing the number of internet browsing
posts at the school and I prefer to do it on linux. Big pipe into the
library, but wiring required to everywhere else.
The software: I need a gui browser that runs on linux. This is for
primary school use. The bottom line is Netscape Navigator on WFWG, but
I would prefer to do a linux project.
What hardware? The hardware being offered is 386's & 486's. What is
the minimum hardware that I am going to need.
How many of these can work across a shared 10Mb UTP link? The library
can be wired with single 10Mb UTP to each computer, but any classrooms
will have to share a hub.
And does anyone have a source of 100Mb NICs for $20-$30 inc tax ? as
Ken says. I'm struggling to buy 10Mb at this price. Better still does
anyone have a source of good, branded, cheap 100Mb hubs?
