Dean,

Like anything the price depends a lot on features. These days it comes down
to managability,expandability,and flexibility.

For instance Nortel make 3 models 24 port 10/100 Ethernet switches. (Harris
Technology have these at http://www.ht.com.au)

1. The Netgear FS524 does basic 10/100 Ethernet switching with LED-based
mgmt and no expandability for $1438
2. The Baystack 350-24T does basic VLANs, RMON, SNMP mgmt, uplink expansions
for $3816
3. The Baystack 450-24T has extra VLAN policies as well as being a true
stackable for $5432

Each of them fundamentally gives the same level of performance, but with
different bells and whistles.

(This mail doesn't endorse Harris or Nortel but is just a sample of what is
out there)
