Hi all
I still have no luck getting my ppp sessions to authenticate and connect
under RH 6.1
I have tried the following things (basically all suggestions offered so
far):
Downgrading pppd to the one supplied with RH6.0
Upgrading ppd to RH6.2 beta ppd rpm (ver 11 I think)
Adding [username secret host] to pap-secrets
Doing a mknod pppd command
Adding a couple of alias commands to conf.modules to bypass the char-major
108 problem
Trying every conceivable mix of options in the RH ppp dialer settings.
My apologies if the above notes are a little bit vagues, but I had to reboot
to windows to be able to write this and I can't peek at the filesys on my
lnx partition.
The current status is:
Modem dials and establishes modem handshake with remote host successfully
During PPP authentication, I receive a message in /var/log/messages saying
'unable to assign IP x.y.z.w, authenticate with remote peer' or something
along those lines. Which leads me to gather that a) password authentication
is failing (I have checked that the uname and passwd are correct) and b)
dynamic assignment of an IP address to my modem ppp link is failing.
I would really appreciate any more help anyone can offer as at the moment, I
am spending a lot of time in windows, which I normally never use. :(
