Hi, I'm relatively new to Linux (been using it for 4 months) (and have never used
other Unixes before).

Anyway, my graphical interface and my terminals (ctrl-shift-F?) sometimes pause every
few seconds. My
computer keeps functioning (downloads come in, keyboard input is accepted), but I
can't see it happening
on the screen.

I have the following setup: (i'll put alot coz i don't know what is really important)
* Dell Inspiron 3500 with Celeron 400 and 64 MB ram
* RedHat Linux 6.0 (with some packages from 6.1).
* Synaptics touchpad with PS / 2 mouse plugged in.
* PCMCIA modem & ethernet card
* Software that I typically run includes Apache, Netscape, LICQ, StarOffice, GFTP,
XMMS, sendmail, .
* when I'm connected to the net (through linxconf) I usually run a firewall script
that uses IPChains.

I think the problem is at least sometimes caused by netscape as closing it sometimes
stops the pausing.
The pausing is at regular intervals of about 3 seconds. it is intermittent and I
can't seem to reproduce
it at will.

It may also be caused by having only some of the 6.1 packages installed, but I made
sure there were no
conflicts or unfulfilled requirements when installing the selected packages.

Please help! Thanks...

Jin
