My laptop pauses roughly every three seconds after it suspends and resumes.
In my case its because I have a setup problem (or perhaps there is
a bug) with the pcmcia drivers. I fix it by stopping and starting pcmcia
ie '/etc/init.d/pcmcia stop' then '/etc/init.d/pcmcia start'
(I'm not sure how its done in red hat)
Also try putting one of those graphical cpu monitors on your desktop, it may
just be a netscape bug stealing all the cpu, which it does to me sometimes.
