Thanks Rachel !!!!! It worked fine. None of the manuals they had
mentioned single user mode.
Jill Rowling helped me to use the mount command as it turned out to be:
mount -F /dev/dsk/c0t3d0s0 /a
to mount the hard disk under /a
and vi didn't work as the system didn't know what teminal type it was so
Jill guided me through ed over the phone. Edited shadow and presto -
root.
The Department now has an operational Sparc again running OpenWindows, a
root account, and some normal user accounts.
