Not sure if I can provide the "GNU glow", but I can offer something
small, pretty, tried and true... Did I mentioned that it's GPL'ed?
Of course, if ASM means poop to you (as it does to me), it won't
provide any great reading matter...
GAG is my fave boot-manager... It's politically correct in that
it's non-OS aligned, it sits happily in the MBR instead of lounging
around in a primary partition all of its own (cf: BootMagic), shows
you cute little icons of all your friends (including Tux, the BSD
Daemon and corporate looking icons for the rest of the crowd,
including BeOS and The HURD), allows you to write your setup to a
boot floppy, basic password protection for OS's that can't seem to
manage it by themselves, regular updates... yada, yada, yada...
