What we need to do is develope a linux friendly Acceptable use policy that
does not violate the current one they have in place and allows us to use
linux. They are saying that an open port is a server, however I have ports
open on my workstation and im not running a server.
We cant cry and say its unfair they dont let us run ftp servers etc because
that would be a breach of their AUP however it would be a moral cause to
make moves to push support for our operating system and allow us to use it.
They need to use another means not just port scanning alone to diagnose
whether a server is running or not. Maybe they could connect to it and see
if its allowing connections etc.etc... You cant judge a server by its
ports....
