a newbie's experience.
I started with the APC Linux Pocket Book with RH5.2, good bit clunky with
install, and went to next edition with RH6.0. Lots and lots of
documentation, and had LDP stuff and even docs on open source nerd
philosophy, ie Catherdral and Bazaar which was a great start.
I tried Corel Linux but found it froze on log out, and Corel don't have
much in the way of WWW user help. Also not satisfied with proprierty
compression on Mag CD, only Corel Update could could read the archive,
smells like Evilware CAB files and 1.7 MG install disks. So I pulled the
plug on Corel Linux, but not after saving kernal 2.2.12 and Eterm themes. ;-)
Mandrake 6.0 was recommened by a SLUGer, 'tis a big winner with KDE and my
favorite with ease of use and utilities and organisation. But the distro
disk was sent by in a flexible plastic envelope, and is now scratched to
the sh*thouse, so is difficult complete the install.
So recomened Mandrake, and look forward to getting it again, but replace
the plastic envelope with a hard case.
