A modem by itself wouldn't be able to send an SMS becasue SMS is a part of
the mobile phone network, and not anything to do with PSTN.
there are a number of websites around that have a web-to-sms gateway. If
can hack together some sort of script to send messages throught the
interface you might be able to get something happening.
