OK.. just to let you all know, I got RP-PPPoE work under RedHat 6.2

The trick was to make sure that:

1. /etc/ppp/options has nothing in it.. not that I had anything conflicting
but to make sure.
2. /etc/ppp/pap-secrets & chap-secrets both have name@bigpond in them
3. /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf has USER=name@bigpond in respect to the chap files.
4. DO NOT START UP YOUR ETH1 or ETH0 device for the ADSL modem. This was 1
that stuffed me up.

there were other little things that I buggered up too as I read the script
in adsl-sniff to check the windows log in and it check whether it is
compatible or not and I noticed at the bottom of the script to read another
HOW-TO-CONNECT doc file which I didn't notice. Turned out there it said not
to boot up the ethernet device or even give it an IP which I goofed on
too.....

All is well should anybody need help on this and has read ALL and I mean ALL
the docs you can find, can email me and I'll help...

Good luck, i tried for 2 months to get pppoe to run with OBSD, with no
luck, i did eventualy get the rp-pppoe port to netbsd to run though.

The openbsd pppoe stuff is still pretty beta.
