What will you be using it for - desktop or random-Linux-fits-here purpose?

If it's a desktop, give Progeny a bash. Otherwise, just go with Debian
proper.

I know you're familiar enough with Linux to grasp Debian in a jiffy, so in
your case, fine. You just have to learn what people inevitably call the
'Debian Way'. ;)

The *best* way of learning the ins and outs of Debian is to have helpful
people around to wave their hands maniacally when you're doing things the
hard way. Gus happens to be especially good at saying, "Oh, why are you
doing it that way?" at any opportunity. :)
