Wot would you like your firewall to do?
Do you want a firewall to just block, redirect and allow
ports. do you want a proxying firewall where it's internet
interface is the only thing people see, but when traffic
comes in it then redirects to other machines?

IPtables is part of the Linux kernel. smoothwall just uses
the interface to make administring things easier.
All your "firewall" tools will be either ipchians (2.2 kernel)
or iptables (2.4 kernel) it depends on what how you want to
build your firewall.
